IN SANCTUARY - Aurora is a sweet 2013 Strawberry Roan Mustang mare with a smaller build and a strong survivor’s instinct. She was captured in Elko, NV and also spent time in Idaho. She came to us from a notorious kill pen in Eaton, CO where her name was "Teacher." We were told she had been starved before even winding up in the slaughter pipeline.
In her herd or home environment, she is not naturally curious about humans and tends to keep to herself, relying on the self-preservation skills that have carried her through life in the wild.
Once removed from her environment and given focused, one-on-one time, Aurora is much easier to connect with on the ground. With a calm, steady, and patient approach, she begins to build trust quickly. After a day or two of consistent work, she will start approaching from a distance and showing curiosity, taking her first steps toward accepting human presence and touch.
Aurora is a mare who has not yet been given a fair chance at life beyond survival. She will need an experienced, confident handler who understands mustangs and is willing to move at her pace, showing her that humans can be trusted and that connection can be safe and rewarding.
Aurora would be best suited for a patient, knowledgeable home committed to building a quiet partnership and giving her the opportunity to grow beyond her past.
While she still has a long way to go before she’s ready for adoption, we believe that once she learns humans can be kind and safe, she will be a willing and devoted partner. Named after the Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights, we bless this beauty with the freedom of the skies.
Aurora is thoughtful, sensitive, and observant. She takes comfort in her herd and watches everything closely before making a move. She thrives in a calm, predictable environment and benefits from patient, quiet interactions.
Anyone with a heart can appreciate what Aurora has been through and it's an honor to care for her and to help build back her confidence even if it takes forever. She is a sweetheart and we are just so pleased to be able to give her comfort. Aurora’s journey is one of quiet resilience. Watching her take small steps toward trust has been inspiring, and we know that with time, she will blossom into a truly special partner.
