West Taylor visited Liberty to work with some of our most skeptical horses and to teach us how neuroregulation can help the horse feel safe and able to learn. Just like humans, horses cannot handle difficult tasks when they are dysregulated. We would like to continue this work and ask that you consider sponsoring Chief with a donation. Link in profile. Chief basically started Liberty Sanctuary. Our founder discovered handsome then 4 year old Chief in a TX kill pen and that inspired Liberty’s first freedom ride rescuing 10 horses. While Chief has made gentle progress, he is still dysregulated and benefited from some of the science-based lessons West taught him. Every horse deserves to be better understood and there’s a lot in science that can help us to better understand and care for our horses and ourselves! Thanks to @wildwest_taylor @libertysanctuary @drstevepeters @provo.ifa @ifacountrystores @redmondequine @knotty.girlz @russianrivervineyards #sciencebasedtraining #sciencebased
Gemma hasn’t met a cowboy like West Taylor before - one who truly understood her. He got her number right away and helped her to down regulate and feel safe to connect. You may remember, Miss Gemma was part of Liberty’s first rescue. She had her baby, Jasper, in the kill pen and arrived completely traumatized. Her baby was only weeks old when they arrived at Liberty Sanctuary. Gemma has been fearful and dysregulated but was able to find comfort working with West. Please donate towards Gemma’s continuing education. Thank you @wildwest_taylor @libertysanctuary @searrarose36 @drstevepeters @provo.ifa @knotty.girlz #sciencebasedtraining
Dakota was the first Mustang to set foot on Liberty’s Mustang Mountain. While she has been interested in engaging with people, she really made significant breakthroughs this summer thanks to Beila and Nicole’s Liberty work and consistency. We brought her into the round pen to play with West Taylor so that he could offer her different choices and rewards based in neuroscientific principles. She followed West around like a puppy dog and enjoyed the puzzles he presented her. Please donate (link in profile) to continue Dakota’s education. She will be adoptable by spring 2026. Thanks so much to @wildwest_taylor @beilaedelman @nkt_horses @searrarose36 @drstevepeters @provo.ifa @knotty.girlz @cornellvet #brainscience

Americans including Dawn Olivieri are lending their powerful voices to demand change and protections for American horses by passing the Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act or SAFE Act to forever ban the export of American horses for slaughter. We need to all come together and support by visiting and sharing SAFEACT.org so friends can easily send a customizable letter to legislators. Not one more year should pass with over 20,000 horses being senselessly trafficked to their deaths. Let’s all help them now! Visit SAFEACT.org today!
Let’s show Congress the Heart of the Herd!
Liberty Sanctuary is a leading equine nonprofit dedicated to protecting America’s most vulnerable horses and banning the slaughter of our cherished American equines. We rescue equines from the slaughter pipeline and offer comprehensive care, training, and adoption programs. Liberty is also home to more wild horses than any sanctuary in Utah. We offer horsemanship clinics to the public and working student opportunities. Liberty is home to over 30 rescued horses cared for by over 60 volunteers. Additionally, we partner with Dr. Rebecca Bailey and the Polyvagal Equine Institute to offer therapeutic neuroregulation to those with mental health challenges including veterans with PTSD, patients recovering from substance abuse, people with disabilities and domestic violence survivors. Our national advocacy efforts include launching SAFEACT.org to support the Save America's Forgotten Equines Act currently in Congress. Our work has been featured on ABC News, Fox News, Good Things Utah, Good Day Utah, Salt Lake Tribune, Park Record, NPR, and more. (Liberty News) To stay updated on Liberty Sanctuary’s progress, follow us on Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), TikTok, and YouTube.
Liberty took part in an incredible rescue of over 31 equines from the Navajo Nation. This mission was spearheaded by Dawn Olivieri and All Seated In A Barn. Liberty was honored to play a role and help welcome over 11 wild horses to the great Western state of Utah. In the end, 4 baby horses remained home @libertysanctuary and 7 horses and 3 donkeys were accepted at other UT sanctuaries. These babies came without stopping at auction or kill pens, reducing stress to the animals and avoiding diseases that are rampant in the slaughter pipeline. Their parents were sent to slaughter. We are honored to be a part of this effort and urge you all to visit SAFEACT.org to let your legislators know you insist we ban the export of majestic American horses for slaughter.
Liberty Sanctuary is an equine sanctuary outside of Park City, Utah which offers freedom for equines rescued from the slaughter pipeline - a vast network responsible for cruelly sending mostly healthy horses to slaughter in Canada and Mexico. The Sanctuary was inaugurated in 2022 by a group of caring individuals, equine enthusiasts and advocates in an effort to save horses from slaughter and helping to pass the SAFE Act to end horse slaughter forever.

The USDA estimated that approximately
92.3 % of horses sent to slaughter are in good condition
and could have lived productive lives
We would love to have you come visit and meet the animals who call Liberty Sanctuary home. Visits can be arranged by appointment. We request a donation of $100/adult and $25/child. Please contact us at info@libertysanctuary.org for further details. We can also work to customize an extra special visit, horse clinic or corporate event. Thank you!
" Your passion for Liberty Sanctuary is truly contagious. I have left inspired and motivated by the incredible work you do. The love and care you give to these beautiful animals is truly remarkable, and it was an honor to witness it."
Gen Gunnarson, Park City equestrian
