ORION

Orion is a 2018 flaxen sorrel mustang gelding with an impressive size and commanding presence. As a natural leader, he has often found himself in a position of authority within his herd, carrying himself with confidence and self-assurance as the head horse.

When separated from his herd, Orion’s demeanor shifts noticeably—he becomes relaxed, lazy, and often quite sleepy. Balancing his mustang instincts to stay alert and protective, he may even take a nap or two during training sessions, showing a thoughtful and inward nature rather than tension.

Orion requires a confident, calm handler—someone he does not perceive as a threat to his safety. He is approachable but guarded, and at this time he does not trust being touched or interacting with tools or equipment. He will need an experienced, patient home that understands mustang behavior and is willing to build trust slowly, at his pace. Orion would be best suited for a knowledgeable handler or sanctuary-style environment focused on relationship-building rather than immediate expectations. With time, consistency, and respect, he has the potential to continue developing confidence and connection.

Orion is a magnificent 2018 BLM gelding rescued in 2023.     

The name is Greek and means Heaven's Light. With this celestial name, we bless this wild horse with the freedom of the stars. For those of you who follow, Orion was previously named "Turner."
